About the Certificate

The six-course, 18-unit Graduate Certificate in Cyber Operations offers a blend of introductory principles in security scripting and cybersecurity principles, followed by more advanced courses in offensive and defensive cyber operations.

This certificate is offered fully online through Arizona Online.

The Graduate Certificate in Cyber Operations may be stacked into the Master of Science in Cyber and Information Operations, serve as a valuable complement to other graduate programs or help active professionals deepen their cyber expertise.

For Teachers

The Graduate Certificate in Cyber Operations is part of the National Cybersecurity Teaching Academy (NCTA) consortium. The NCTA is focused on building teachers’ knowledge and skills in cybersecurity and providing them with a cybersecurity credential. The certificate develops teachers’ content knowledge, pedagogical content knowledge and curriculum knowledge so they are well prepared to teach cybersecurity.

We are also partnering with the Arizona Teachers Academy (ATA) to support K-12 teachers across Arizona and the US by building teachers’ knowledge and skills in cybersecurity and providing them with a cyber credential. Explore possibilities: ATA websiteCollege of Education ATA website and FAQs

Certificate Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in Cyber Operations requires 18 units (6 courses) in core subject areas. The certificate can be completed in as few as 2 semesters. 

Students are not required to have experience in cybersecurity, computer science or programming languages to be admitted, although that experience can make for an easier transition into the program.

How to Apply

To apply, you must complete the University of Arizona Graduate College online application. Follow these steps:

  1. Create a GradApp account
  2. Complete your GradApp profile under "My Account".
  3. Select "Apply to a Program" from the sidebar.
  4. Choose "Arizona Online" as the campus (Note: location will default to "Online").
  5. Choose "Graduate Certificate" for program category and "Cyber Operations (Certificate NDP)" under program of study.
  6. Choose the semester during which you wish to enter the program.
  7. Your application should now be initiated under "My Active Applications."

Admission Requirements

Applications to our certificate programs are reviewed by our certificate coordinator. To be admitted, you must meet the minimum requirements of the University of Arizona Graduate College, which include:

  • A bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona or from an accredited college or university recognized by the University of Arizona
  • A grade point average of 2.75 or higher
