The cutting-edge research of the University of Arizona College of Information Science explores the intersections of people, data and technology.

Our faculty, students and research staff are engaged in research around all aspects of the information sciences, without regard for disciplinary boundaries.

Our world-class faculty conduct research in a wide array of information fields, including archival studies, artificial intelligence, virtual reality, biodiversity informatics, data management and curation, computer vision, computer-mediated communication and learning, natural language processing, social networking, human-computer interfaces, dark networks, computational art and creation, library sciences and beyond.

The college, which is a member of the iSchools consortium, hosts eight research labs, groups and collaboratives, as well as the acclaimed Center for Digital Society and Data Studies.

Fostering a Deep Understanding: Liangming Pan, Assistant Professor

Dr. Liangming Pan, who holds a PhD in Computer Science from the National University of Singapore, joined the college in fall 2024. His primary research focuses on natural language processing and machine learning—artificial intelligence—and specifically how to build large language models that are logical, truthful and safe. Design Thinking: Marie Saldaña, Assistant Professor

Monday

Dr. Marie Saldaña, an assistant professor with a PhD in Architecture, joined the College of Information Science in fall 2024 because of its transdisciplinary approaches. Her research focuses on cultural heritage informatics, and she is currently serving a fellowship with the National Endowment for the Humanities.
