Chen Chen received her Master’s in Data Science while also earning her PhD in East Asian Studies. She recently joined TikTok as a data scientist, where she develops machine learning models to enhance the effectiveness of advertisement delivery.

As part of the College of Information Science Colloquium series, University of Colorado Boulder Assistant Professor Katharina von der Wense presented 'AmericasNLI and the Search for a Path Towards Universal Natural Language Processing.'

Dr. Steven Bethard joined the college in 2016 after serving as an assistant professor of computer and information science at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research focuses on natural language processing and machine learning theory and applications. He teaches Neural Networks, advises students in the PhD in Information and oversees student directed research.

Dylan Maldonado, who is originally from Tucson and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in philosophy from the University of Arizona before pursuing an MA in Philosophy in Boston, is an online MA in Library and Information Science student interested in photography archival studies.

PlanetScape—an immersive experience and multimedia performance—is a collaboration between the College of Information Science and University of Arizona School of Music, School of Dance, Department of Astronomy, Research Technologies Department, and Live and Immersive Art. Dr. Jamie A. Lee joined the college in 2015, after earning their PhD in Information Resources and Library Science and Gender and Women’s Studies. Their areas of focus range from participatory research, interactive multimodality and innovative collaboration to embodied archives and bodies of knowledge—and much more.

Originally from Tucson, Arizona, Kapua Ioane earned her BS in Information Science (Emphasis in Interactive and Immersive Technologies) and BA in Computer Science in December 2023. A first-generation student whose focus is increasing accessibility in technology, she is the College of Information Science Fall 2023 Outstanding Senior.

A $3.8 million grant from the National Institutes of Health will fund planning for the U of A Southwest Center on Resilience for Climate Change and Health. College of Information Science Assistant Professor Cristian Román-Palacios will lead data management and visualization training activities.

First-generation student Bryan Armstrong moved to Tucson from Cambodia, where he served in the Peace Corps, to earn his MA in Library and Information Science. A recipient of the College of Information Science Outstanding Graduate award, he is a participant in the Knowledge River Scholars Program.
