The BAS in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce is a robust program with learning outcomes designed to position graduates for dynamic careers across industries.
- Communication (Verbal, Written, Virtual): The student will be able to efficiently analyze, evaluate and contrast ideas both verbally and in writing. They will listen to others and be able to effectively communicate complex ideas and information across a variety of media.
- Strategic Thinking/Project Management: The student will apply advanced knowledge of major leadership, business management and communication theories to make effective business and leadership decisions. The student will develop this knowledge throughout their coursework as well as utilize this knowledge in a supervised capstone project, internship and/or supervised research experience.
- Ethics: The student will demonstrate what it means to be an ethical leader. They will be able to effectively assess a situation, identify pertinent ethical dilemmas and construct an appropriate action plan that considers not only their own values, but also considers the wellbeing of others and society as a whole.
- Critical Thinking: The student will demonstrate critical thinking strategies—including reasoning, problem solving, analysis, creating and evaluation—throughout their coursework as well as utilize this knowledge in a supervised capstone project, internship and/or supervised research experience.
Emphasis Areas
Students choose one of two dynamic emphasis areas in the BAS in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce:
Students earning their BAS in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce with an Organizational Leadership emphasis study dynamics within public and private organizations.
- Courses delve into supervisory theory and analyze applications in workplace situations.
- Students develop management skills and learn methods to motivate and inspire employees and diverse groups of individuals.
- In a capstone course, students apply their skills to a project in their community, providing them an opportunity to gain real-world experience.
- Graduates find jobs in human resources management, supply chain management, logistics management, corporate training and more.
Students earning their BAS in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce with a Regional Commerce emphasis study small business and entrepreneurship.
- Courses focus on marketing, business growth and development, the role of tourism and entertainment in bolstering a local or regional economy, and service and trade.
- In addition to traditional classroom lecture and coursework, students gain experience and build skill through internships, research projects and business plan development.
- The program also offers networking opportunities as students work alongside local business development professionals, leaders and economists.
- Graduates find roles with government entities and private businesses or they may even start their own enterprises.
