Offered on main campus and online, the College of Information Science's Bachelor of Arts and Science in Organizational Leadership & Regional Commerce (BAS OLRC) prepares you with the skills to efficiently analyze, evaluate and contrast ideas both verbally and in writing. Effectively communicate complex ideas and information across a variety of media.

Program Goals & Learning Outcomes

Program goals (or student competencies) and learning outcomes for the BAS OLRC will alow you to demonstrate what it means to be an ethical leader. Effectively assess a situation, identify pertinent ethical dilemmas and construct an appropriate action plan, and consider the well-being of others and society as a who

Gain the skills and acumen necessary for a career in local or regional business. 

A Regional Commerce emphasis study small business and entrepreneurship.
 
Courses focus on marketing, business growth and development, the role of tourism and entertainment in bolstering a local or regional economy, and service and trade. 

Students gain experience and build skill through internships, research projects and business plan development. 

Networking opportunities as students work alongside local business development professionals, leaders and economists. 

Graduates find roles with government entities and private businesses or they may even start their own enterprises.

  • Develop in-demand leadership skills to excel in a competitive job market with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership & Regional Commerce with an Organizational Leadership emphasis. What is a BAS degree good for? BAS degrees prepare you for careers in corporate, non-profit, military, and government sectors with exceptional knowledge of and experience in effective leadership practices.
  • This organizational leadership degree prepares you for careers in corporate, non-profit, military, and government sectors with exceptional knowledge of and experience in effective leadership practices. BAS degrees often lead to specific career paths like project management, supply chain management, or data science.
  • Evolve your strategic thinking skills by examining all facets of leadership – from leaders to followers to contextual influences. Course topics covered include organizational behavior, decision-making, and team building. These theory-based courses also focus on the practical application of knowledge.

In addition to the required foundation, general education and minor or double major courses, BA IS&ES students must also meet the following requirements to complete the degree: 9 units of Introductory Courses for Major; 18 units of Major Core Courses; 3 units of Research Methods and Data Analysis; 6 units of Major Electives; and 3 units of Engagement Learning Requirement: ESOC 480: Digital Engagement.

Curriculum & Courses

Bachelor's in Organizational Leadership and Regional Commerce students take a mix of Foundations, General Education, Core and Electives courses, subject to change based on catalog year, placement tests, AP/CLEP credit, transfer work, minor requirements, summer school, etc.

Foundations

Specific unit requirements may vary based on placement and/or prior college-level coursework:

  • First-year English or equivalent
  • MATH Foundation: PHIL 110, LING 123, MATH 107 or MATH 112
  • Second language fourth-semester proficiency

General Education

  • Introduction to General Education (1 unit)
  • Exploring Perspectives Courses (12 units, including at least one course from each domain: Artist, Humanist, Natural Scientist, Social Scientist)
  • Building Connections Courses (9 units)
