Haw-Shiuan Chang is an assistant professor in Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning at the University of Arizona College of Information Science. He bridges machine learning, natural language processing and information retrieval, focusing on fundamentally narrowing the gap between large language models (LLMs) and human intelligence. Previously, he served as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) at UMass Amherst, working with Prof. Hamed Zamani and a Postdoctoral Scientist at Amazon AGI Foundations and was guided by Prof. Violet Peng and Prof. Mohit Bansal. He received his Ph.D. from UMass Amherst under the supervision of Prof. Andrew McCallum.
