Haw-Shiuan Chang is an assistant professor in artificial intelligence and machine learning at the College of Information Science. He bridges machine learning, natural language processing and information retrieval, focusing on fundamentally narrowing the gap between large language models (LLMs) and human intelligence. Previously, he served as a postdoctoral asssociate at the Center for Intelligent Information Retrieval (CIIR) at UMass Amherst, working with Professor Hamed Zamani, and a postdoctoral scientist at Amazon AGI Foundations and was guided by Professors Violet Peng and Mohit Bansal. He received his PhD from UMass Amherst under the supervision of Professor Andrew McCallum.
