Location: Nogales, AZ

Overview:
The Pimeria Alta Historical Society and Museum is seeking an Archivist for our NHPRC grant! The primary responsibility of the Archivist is to develop and refine processing plans, physically process, arrange, complete storage upgrades, and descriptive cataloging of cultural resource management-based records. The Archivist will also prepare finding aids to facilitate the research of collections, focusing on records documenting historical people, places, and events significant to the Pimeria Alta region and the wider Nogales community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in identifying materials of permanent value for various record groups, processing materials under the guidance of the Project Director and input from the Board and community.
  • Helps organize, digitize, and catalog materials into appropriate databases (Past Perfect or ArchivesSpace).
  • Develops attention to detail and applies best practices for cataloging and preservation techniques.
  • Handles rare and fragile photographic materials with care and assists in identifying preservation needs for both paper-based and digitally based records.
  • Recommends archival supplies and digital tools to the Project Director.
  • Occasionally travels to sites to complete archival work.
  • Completes tasks as part of a team, interacting with the Board and community as needed.
  • May work remotely on occasion, with supervisor approval.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with archival cataloging and willingness to learn systems like Past Perfect and ArchivesSpace.
  • Knowledge of archival principles (Society of American Archivists) and flexibility to adapt to evolving institutional standards.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and teamwork skills.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience.

Employment Details:

  • Full Time/Part Time: Full Time
  • Hours: Minimum of 40 hours/week; occasional weekend and evening events required.
  • Work Calendar: Fiscal, with paid Federal Holidays.
  • Rate of Pay: $40,000-$50,000, commensurate with experience.
