MLIS Student Kristina Santiago Recognized as a Spectrum Scholar by ALA
College of Information Science student Kristina Santiago is among 60 exceptional students selected as a 2021-2022 Spectrum Scholar by the American Library Association’s (ALA) Office for Diversity Literacy and Outreach Services. A committee of 28 jurors appointed by the ALA set out to select students pursuing graduate degrees in library and information studies based on their “commitment to community building, leadership potential and planned contributions to making social justice part of everybody's everyday work in LIS.” In addition to being recognized for her “leadership in the transformation of libraries and library services” by the American Library Association, Kristina is also already an experienced educator and facilitator, working in both public and K-5 school libraries.
Currently settled on the O'odham land of the Sonoran Desert, Kristina Santiago is an Afro-Puerto Rican MLIS candidate and Knowledge River Scholar at the University of Arizona College of Information Science, who also holds her B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. She acts as co-editor at up//root: a we here publication, and has presented with the editorial team at the POC in LIS and Library Publishing Forum 2021 conferences. This fall, Kristina is taking on the role of Community School coordinator at We Here. Kristina is currently completing her MLIS degree at the College of Information Science.
