In the fifth of the Spring 2024 AI at Arizona town hall events, panelists explore the vital role of artificial intelligence in shaping democratic processes, focusing on civil discourse, challenges of misinformation or disinformation and impact on voters. AI algorithms can help detect and counter false narratives, provide fact-checking, bolster participation and accessibility, and allow us to consider issues like privacy, bias and exclusions. With perspectives from information and political scientists, journalists and discourse-driven experts, panelists engage in a lively exchange of ideas on the promises and pitfalls of AI in shaping the future of democracy.

This AI at Arizona Town Hall Series is aimed at sparking discussion and sharing ideas around AI at the University of Arizona to broaden understanding, responsible use and access to these technologies. The Institute for Computation and Data-Enabled Insight is convening the series in partnership with the Office of the Provost and Research, Innovation and Impact.
