Join the College of Information Science for a talk by internationally renowned sound artist Victoria Shen at the Tucson Noise Symposium.
This talk is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by the College of Information Science and the co/lab: the Critical Archives & Curation Collaborative, in collaboration with English Literature and the Program in Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory.
Victoria Shen is a San Francisco-based sound artist, experimental music performer and instrument maker, often performing as Evicshen. Her work explores the spatial and physical nature of sound and its relationship to the human body, using analog modular synthesizers, vinyl and resin records, and self-built electronics. Emphasizing texture and gesture over traditional harmony and rhythm, Shen’s “chaotic sound” challenges conventional ideas of signal, meaning and perception.
Shen has performed internationally and collaborated with artists including Mix Master Mike (Beastie Boys), Kronos Quartet and Matmos. She has presented work at venues such as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and MUNCH Museum Oslo and has taught at institutions including Harvard University and Stanford University.
Shen will also perform as Evicshen later that evening at Wave Archive from 7–10:30 p.m. (ticketed event).
