Description/Duties

This recruitment will fill one (1) vacancy at the Red Mountain Library Branch for a Youth Services Librarian. The eligible list created from this opening may also be used to fill future Librarian I vacancies in Youth, Teen, or Adult Services at the new Gateway Library (opening in late 2025) or future vacancies at the Main and Dobson Ranch Libraries.

Position Overview:
The Librarian I position involves applying a full scope of basic professional library knowledge and techniques. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and presenting adult, teen, and children’s programming.
  • Conducting outreach, managing social media, supporting digital literacy, and offering other community-building services.
  • Acting as the person in charge during supervisor absences (e.g., evening or weekend shifts).
  • Performing leadership duties as required.

This role follows established policies and library practices. Supervision may be provided by a Librarian III or Branch Coordinator, with work reviewed through conferences, meetings, and performance results. Night and weekend work is required.

This position is FLSA exempt-professional (part-time employees in this class are FLSA nonexempt).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduation from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college or university with a Master’s Degree in Library Science, Library Science and Information Studies, Education, or a related field.
