Position Overview:

The Human Resources (HR) Intern at Harvard Library will assist the HR department with daily operations and contribute to various HR projects. This role provides valuable experience in a higher education setting, with exposure to recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, diversity initiatives, compliance, and administrative HR functions. The internship offers hands-on opportunities to address real-world HR challenges while supporting Harvard’s mission to foster a diverse and inclusive campus.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide administrative support to the HR team, including document preparation, meeting coordination, and data entry.
  • Assist with the onboarding process, including orientation sessions for new employees.
  • Support employee recognition programs and help organize staff events.
  • Update and maintain HR databases.
  • Collaborate on projects promoting EDIBA (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Antiracism) within the workforce.
  • Research and implement strategies to support EDIBA initiatives in the department.
  • Coordinate staff training programs, workshops, and seminars.
  • Develop training materials and maintain attendance records.
  • Generate reports on HR metrics.
  • Contribute to various HR projects as needed.

Qualifications:

Basic:

  • HS diploma and current enrollment or completed bachelor’s/master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.

Additional:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information.
  • Interest in diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks (e.g., filing).
  • Previous internship or office experience (preferred but not required).

Physical Requirements:

  • Must remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Occasional movement within the office to access files and equipment.

Work Location and Environment:

  • Based on-site in Cambridge, MA, with the possibility of a hybrid work model compliant with Harvard University policies.
  • Anticipated on-campus presence: Four days per week, with one off-campus day allowed. Weekly anchor day attendance on campus is required.
  • Work location may change based on business needs, and flexibility requests will be considered per Harvard University policies.
  • Work is performed in an office/library setting.

Compensation and Benefits (Common for All Harvard Library Internships):

  • Travel Costs: Covered up to $1,000, including two bags of luggage each way (coordinated by Harvard Library).
  • Housing: Double occupancy in a campus-designated apartment (includes bedding, linen, kitchen utensils, and WIFI). Interns are responsible for toiletries and groceries.
  • Hourly Pay: $18/hour for 30 hours per week, totaling up to $4,320 (taxable).
  • Professional Development: Biweekly opportunities provided.
