Xiao Hu

Dr. Xiao Hu’s research aims to improve people’s learning and wellbeing by designing and developing intelligent systems. Before joining the College of Information Science, she was an associate professor at the University of Hong Kong. Her projects on learning analytics, artificial intelligence in education, human-computer interaction, music and emotion, and cultural heritage have successfully attracted funding from the Research Grant Council (RGC), Education Conservation Fund (ECF) and Standing Committee on Language Education and Research (SCOLAR) of Hong Kong S.A.R., as well as National Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Dr. Hu has been publishing extensively in these areas and ranked the World’s Top 2% most-cited scientists by Stanford University in the field of Information & Library Sciences (2024).

Dr. Hu is now serving in the editorial board of Journal of the Association for Information Science and Technology (JASIS&T), and was an associate editor of Information Processing and Management (2023-2024). She is the coordinating co-chair of Big Data in Education and Learning Analytics (BDELA) track in the IEEE International Conference on Advanced Learning Technologies (ICALT) (2021-2025) and a poster co-chair of the International Conference on Learning Analytics and Knowledge (LAK) (2023). She has also served as a program co-chair for the ACM/IEEE Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL) (2024) and the International Society for Music Information Retrieval Annual Conference (ISMIR) (2017, 2018, 2025).
