Summary:
Plan, direct, and operate the technical Library containing extensive technical materials that embrace global engineering technology covering all disciplines, the physical, social and natural sciences, architecture, construction technology, materials testing, hazardous waste management, public administration, financial and personnel management, and an 8,000-volume legal reference library.

Duties

  • Provide selective and comprehensive reference services requiring professional expertise for retrieval of technical and scientific information.
  • Utilize computer databases, in-house collections, Corps-wide resources, universities, Library of Congress, and other national/international libraries for reference services.
  • Plan, budget, organize, and direct the Division/District Library program to meet mission requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for acquiring and processing informational materials to support organizational needs.
  • Manage services requiring knowledge of engineering, physical and natural sciences, and construction technology.

Requirements

  • Conditions of Employment:

  • Qualifications:
    Basic Requirement for Librarians:

    • Education: 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to a bachelor's degree.
    • OR
    • Education and experience: 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience that provides knowledge of professional librarianship.

    Basic Requirements for GS-9 and above Librarian:

    • Degree: Master's degree (or higher) in Library Science (MLS) or Library Information Science (MLIS). (Note: Transcripts required.)

    Specialized Experience:

    • One year of experience including:
      1. Literature searches using bibliographies, indexes, and source materials.
      2. Retrieving information from various published/unpublished sources and databases.
      3. Providing input for collection development.
      4. Offering training and library support to diverse users.
      5. Managing e-resources and ensuring compliance with digital library standards.

    Education Substitution:

    • 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education in Library Science or a related doctoral degree.

    Combination of Education and Experience:

    • A combination of education and experience is acceptable if it equals 100% of the qualification requirements.

Education

  • Foreign Education: Must be evaluated by a private organization for equivalence to U.S. education standards.
