About the Speakers and Their Presentations
Tyler Millhouse will speak about Large Language Models (LLMs) and how they might interact with the library field. Large language models (LLMs) are dominating headlines and surprising us with their ability to answer sophisticated questions using natural language. Increasingly, people are using LLMs to identify sources, acquire information and even generate research output (e.g., legal briefs, business memos or school papers). This has raised serious questions about the future of workers with expertise in these areas (e.g., those working with libraries or databases). In this talk, Millhouse will discuss (i) recent findings on the interaction between human workers and LLMs, (ii) the pitfalls of relying on LLMs to the exclusion of human experts and (iii) new job opportunities created by the LLM revolution.
Sara Swayden, MLIS alumna, has a background in archives and is an archivist for the University of Arizona Museum of Art. Swayden will be joining us to talk about her career and working in the archive field. View her career trajectory and connect with her on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/sara-a-guzman-26402887/.
