Academic Advisor Jessica Chung, who advises College of Information Science main campus students with last names that begin P-Z, joined the college in the spring of 2024 after serving as an advisor at the University of Chicago. In this profile, she shares her joy in helping undergraduate InfoSci students achieve their academic goals; her love of music, food and games; and the value of goal-setting for students.
What brought you to the College of Information Science and University of Arizona?
I was drawn to the programs and majors we offered at the College of Information Science—especially the Game Design and Development and Games and Behavior majors, as I also enjoy playing video games. Prior to joining the college, I was an academic advisor at the University of Chicago.
What do you find most rewarding about your job?
I enjoy being able to support my students as they navigate their academic journey. There is no greater joy than seeing students excited to pursue their interests (academic and extracurricular), overcoming barriers to their success, walking across the stage to get their diploma and telling me about the future job they have lined up.
Beyond your job, what are your passions?
I enjoy listening to music. Currently my favorite artists are Twice, Blackpink, IVE and The Piano Guys. I also enjoy reading, trying new foods (and taking pictures of it), playing games and spending time with my family.
What is your advice for students to find success at the College of Information Science and U of A?
