"A huge reason I picked InfoSci is because I'm very passionate about the functions of online forums and preservation efforts. In the same vein, I'm a big supporter for unofficial preservation efforts, and I'm hoping to get better at modding the devices I own to take advantage of their potential using those resources."

To me, the InfoSci experience means...

I'll always be able to learn new things because of how expansive the field of information science is.

More about me:

I'm studying Information Science so that I can become a librarian! I think that libraries as they are now are an area underutilized, under-researched and underfunded. With the way the internet functions now with tons of small, informal sources of information, I can't wait to help develop how we define a library and how we use them.

Right now I'm working in the U of A Main Library where I help digitize materials to be used by Special Collections and the public. It's amazing to be a part of the process, and in the future I'd like to be the one organizing these digitization efforts. I'm super passionate about preservation in online spaces, so I'm excited for how far I can take it!

In addition to online forums and preservation efforts, I also love to craft, sew and play strategy games! Something about making things with my own hands always feels nice, and that juxtaposes nicely with being a JRPG nerd.

If you're considering information science, I'd say a huge benefit it has is the wide range of fields you can partake in. Just the major itself has so many different niches you can take a look at and be a part of, and if that's something you'd like, you should try it! If you're already in InfoSci, I really recommend finding people in the same niche as you. I know only a few other people in my major, let alone someone also pursuing library science. Having people in your corner you can rely on is essential.
