Position Description and Overview
- The primary project for this position will be creating a browsing collection at the Polytechnic Library to support the doctoral program in Human Systems Engineering (HSE). This project will incorporate the following:
- Identifying and assessing relevant resources within the existing ASU Library collection to support HSE curricular and research areas and to describe strengths and gaps in HSE-related materials.
- Recommending existing materials to be included in the browsing collection and new materials for acquisition aligned with the program’s needs.
- Collaborating with ASU librarians and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with academic and research goals.
- Documenting the selection process and preparing periodic progress reports on the collection curation project.
- Additional goals for the position will be to develop an understanding of resources in engineering librarianship, including key research databases and important grey literature such as patents and technical standards; to gain practical experience in a large academic library; and to also meet and collaborate with other library units in pursuits of the internship’s goals

- Refine skills in resource evaluation, bibliographic curation, and project documentation.
- Experience interdisciplinary collaboration in an academic library setting.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Students must be currently enrolled and/or recent graduates of an ALA-accredited MLS program.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Ability to work independently and with attention to detail.
- Familiarity with library databases, cataloging systems, and digital resources.
- Interest in academic librarianship and engineering librarianship.
This is a hybrid position with both remote and in-person responsibilities. In-person work will primarily be at the Polytechnic Library at Arizona State University Polytechnic campus in Mesa, AZ, but may also include visits to Hayden Library and Noble Library at ASU's Tempe campus.
This position is open to students currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS program. Recent graduates will also be considered. Course credit is available for students in accredited MLS programs.
