Pimeria Alta Historical Society and Museum located in Nogales, Arizona is in view of the border
of Mexico. We hold unique collections on the histories of the local borderlands region that range
from Indigenous and Archaic materials to contemporary photography and art.
We are working on a federally-funded grant to archive and digitize audiovisual materials,
photographs, slides, negatives, papers, and art works. Our Archivist Intern will be responsible
for cataloging and digitizing 1,100 color slides (mostly 35mm and 127mm) dated from the
1960s-1980s donated by local community members on both sides of the border.
Eight hours per week on-site in Nogales, AZ to physically assign identifiers and digitize the
slides is required. We are approximately one hour south of the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Intern has the opportunity to choose which day works best for them Tuesday through Friday as
long as it’s the same day each week, 9am to 5pm, with the possibility of additional
asynchronous remote hours to complete metadata and attend a weekly camera-on video
meeting.

The position is paid at $15/hr and can also be taken for credit. Intern is responsible for providing
all paperwork, deadlines, and communications required for school credit to the Lead Archivist
and Project Director. Program Learning Outcomes can be tailored to the student and discussed

Required:
Current MLIS or MFA student or recent graduate
Ability to work on-site in Nogales, AZ one day per week
Interest in U.S. / Mexico border communities and issues
Comprehension of basic archival studies and metadata schemas
Excellent digital communication and organizational skills
Prompt and collaborative working style
Strong attention to detail
Computer literacy
Preferred:
Photography experience
Digitization experience
