Job Description
The Center for Creative Photography (CCP)seeks a detail oriented graduate student intern with interests in archival
collections management, project management, and preservationtohelp kick off moving CCP’s film-basedarchive items into a
newly constructed cold storage vaults.Currently, film-basedarchive items are stored inastandard climate-controlled spaceor
temporarily in large chest freezers.While the process of physically moving items into cold storage will likely extend after this
internship, all of CCP’s film-basedarchive items will eventually need to end up in the correct places in CCP’s new cold storage
vaults. This intern will develop, test, and then participate in the processes of movement, archival housing changes, finding aid
updates, and project tracking associated with all known scenarios needed to move archive items into the cold storage vaults.
Program Learning Objectives
• Work with CCP’s Head of Conservation to learn:
o Essential principals of film preservation and cold storage
o Learn how to safely handle collection materials
o The ability to assessand make recommendations associated with common film housing scenarios
• Work with archives staff to evaluate data sets and utilize data driven decision-making
• Update finding aids using ArchivesSpace
• Develop a full understanding of how and why the content of finding aids directly impacts researchers and public
services staff
• Work with archives staff to establish project use cases, documentation, and handoffs foralarge-scale project with
multiple collaborators
• Develop skills associated with project management practices and use of project management tool, AirTable
• Move a portion of CCP’s collections into CCP’s new cold storage spaces
Technical Skills Required
• Ability to work with Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Chrome, and to quickly learn new applications
Minimum Qualifications
• Detail-oriented, ability to solve problems, and think outside of the box
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Ability to learn careful and cautious handling of archival and photographic materials
• Ability to climb ladders to retrieve and shelve boxes weighing up to 40 pounds
• Ability to work in cold storage space for short periods of time to shelve archival boxes
• Career interest in archives, libraries, preservation, and/or museums
Preferred Qualifications
• Graduate student working on MLIS degree and/or Certificate in Archival Studies
• Completion of, or current enrollment in, Introduction to Archives or equivalent course
• Interest in preservation of cultural heritage materials
• Interest in photography
• Interest in project management
Position Details
Start date: Between 5/13 and 5/25
Hours
This internship is for 135 hours of work. 15-20 hours/week are available depending on scheduling and the
student’s availability. Students may work between 9:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Monday-Friday.
